A daily revolution Axiosun® is our patented architecture for medium-concentration photovoltaic (MCPV) plants. Specifically designed for the market in sun-rich countries, it meets the twin challenges of sturdiness and efficiency while making the investment in the industrial facilities costing ten times less than in a standard solar panel manufacturing unit.
The basic technologies are proven: what is new is the design and combination of our components. The photovoltaic cell, the module and the tracker are exclusive products of research conducted by dozens of engineers at the laboratories of France’s National Solar Energy Institute (INES). We assemble them and supplement them to offer solutions adapted to the specific needs of the identified markets.
The first two plants we developed are the AX203PV, which generates electricity, and the AX203hybrid, which produces both electric power and hot water. Other research is under way on multi-generation.
The AX cell: high output under concentration
With a design based on optimized single-crystal silicon, our cells can withstand the extremely high temperatures generated by the concentration of light rays. To expel excess heat that limits their efficiency and longevity, we have developed cooling and heat dissipation systems in the form of radiators and high diffusion materials.
The new-generation cells offer an exceptionally stable output rate of 19% when subjected to concentration, whereas that of a standard photovoltaic cell drops to 13% for light concentrated by a factor of 5 and falls to zero when it is concentrated by a factor of 10.
The AX module: efficient and scalable
Adapted to the aging and temperature constraints specific to medium solar concentration (IEC standard 62108), our photovoltaic module principle is made of new-generation cells, exposed to light rays concentrated by our reflectors, and radiators responsible for diffusing heat. With reflectors that concentrate light rays by a factor of 15 to 20 times, AX achieves the same output as standard panels but with a smaller size (1,250 mm x 100 mm).
The AX203 hybrid solution combines medium-concentration technology with a coolant- based system that recovers the heat dissipated by the photovoltaic module. The plant achieves an exceptionally high efficiency rate, converting 75% of the sunlight partly into electricity (15%) and partly into hot water (60%) at a temperature of 60°C to 90°C.
The AX tracker: the reliability of a robust system
The tracker is what orients the solar panels throughout the day to increase productivity. Our AX tracker pivots over 170° to follow the rotation of the sun from east to west. The tracker is powered by an electrical actuator connected to an astronomical clock. The device automatically switches to “safe mode” when the wind speed exceeds a pre-programmed limit.
